Nerd Nite is an event usually held at a bar or venue during which individuals present on a topic of personal interest or expertise in a fun-yet-intellectual format while the audience drinks along. It was started in 2003 by now Dr. Chris Balakrishan[/toggler]The Nerd Nite Movie -Siem Reap Film Society was one the greatest event I had never seen before. When I first arrived there I was gotten shock because there were only foreigners and I was the only Khmer there.
The event located at above ABOUT Asia Travel, in Charming city, Siem Reap-Cambodia.
It started from 7:00 to 9:00pm.
The event was focusing of gathering young hostels, friends and people from different places and countries to talk, discuss and share their topic during they meeting. There were about about 50 attendances who were coming from different countries and places to gather in Siem Reap to share their topics, speeches, life experience and so on…
The place was comfortable with air-con, a big wide screen projector and free sitting spaces. Also had some staffs sell some snacks too, pop corn, beverages and cookies at the outdoor, but they also allow and accept guests to bring some food in too.
After all attendees gathered they spent about 30mn to greet each other and share some of their personal information and favorite things too.
The main time has came, the organizer has had invited 5 special speakers who will come on stage with their topic and some photos slide show.
The 5 speakers were:
- Premila Sattianayagam – Sri Lanka’s killing fields and the civil war that gripped an island for over 25 years.
- Paul Soldner – Frame rate and 3D in cinema,
- Gary Eyles – Drumming,
- Stephen Jeane – Connecting your perception to your intuition and the last,
- Katrina Dybzynska – Fighting for peace?
For each speaker had at least 20 slide photos and each slide must be presented in only about 20 seconds.
Gorgeous photos about Sri Lanka
The first speaker – Premila Satttianayagam, 28 yrs lady – is my favorite among the 5 speakers with her topic: ” Sri Lanka Killing Field and Civil war that gripped an Island for over 25 years”. The main point of the story was telling about the civil war that happened in the island in Sri Lanka.
Well, the story was related about fight, revolution and things has had change from a year by year in Sri Lanka. During her presentation there was a great photo slideshow. All those slides showed all about the changing period of Sri Lanka under civil war, but also in the end of presentation she showed us some wonderful photos of Sri Lanka living today. Those were gorgeous..:)
Asking questions to the speaker
After the presentation was finished they all also gave a chance to the guest and attendance to ask some questions to the speakers too.
The 5 speakers went on stage one ofter one but after finished the two presentation they took 15 mn break.
The event went well and before finished and closed the event all guests and attendees spending about 20 mn to say farewell and thankful to each others.
It was very interesting for me to talk and share a lot of knowledge from many different people around the world. Looking forward to the next Nerd Nite in SR!
